Lust

All Glories  to HDG Srila Bhakti Siddhanta Saraswati Goswami Prabhupada

Lust is one of our six enemies. The meaning of lust is  to desire or want. This lust is produced  from the mode of passion. There is no greater enemy than lust. By the influence of this lust, there is no lowly action that one would not stoop to perform .  The effects of illusion and lack of connecting spiritual knowledge is the reason for creation of all sorts of lusty desires. By the profuse lusty desires overcoming one's  mind signals the start of the material transmigration where the living entity becomes  overcome by ignorance  and strives to enjoy all types of sensual pleasures. All this sensual fantasies though in reality without substance but because of that state of our mind bereft of connecting spiritual knowledge ,we deem the former to be true. At present, we being  are under certain type of professed designations  which is certainly very bonding as I am a Brahmin, or a Kshatriya,Vaisya ,Moslem,Buddhist ,Jain ,Blind  or Spastic and in these  types of false egoistic designations. More or less, everybody usually rejects one prone to this lusty tendences giving more weight to character or principle enacted in one's life because without such principles ,one becomes devoid of humanity. That is perhaps the sole difference between human beings and beasts as the latter are usually without principles. In the pious land of Bharatha ,the Varna ashrama was established on the basis of this principle of character and behavior. This system establishes the four goals of human life which is religiosity, economic development, enjoyment and finally liberation with their many varieties of rules and regulations. Even though, there is more less the rules to curb this lusty  tendency ,still that lusty tendency persists and  covered subtly by other types of desires. Until and unless this lusty tendencies are not utilized and transformed for the service of Krishna it will rear its ugly head to pave the way for doom. In Chaitainya Charitramrta it is mentioned about this form of lust and the scientific away to be able to renounce it is discussed as below. Lust and devotion are completely different as the comparison of gold and iron. The desire to enjoy one's senses is lust while the desire to satisfy the senses of Lord Krishna is love of God or devotion. The cowherd damsels gave up society etiquette ,Vedic norms and bodily attachment relinquishing all simply to serve the Supreme Lord. They simply wanted the pleasure of the Supreme Lord and therefore their devotion  increased  manifold. The love of the gopis had no trace of lust  with simply desiring to serve the Supreme Lord. We can understand that lust is in the mode of darkness as it wants to establish the selfish enjoyment of the senses. Only by the bright  radiance of  devotion to Krishna will it be able to be removed. All the actions of the gopis being devoid of any form of lust was solely to give pleasure to SriKrishna. This is the real  meaning of  being without any desire. In Hindu scriptures ,acceptance of a wife ,drinking of liquor, killing of animals are all listed as in the path of natural enjoyment  but if these tendencies  can be curbed and  if one can take to the path of renunciation then there is chance of one able to attain to truth. Lust is not neutralized  but  rather increases by engaging in enjoyment in reverse just as ghee poured in the fire increases the blaze. By a simple analysis, we can understand that this lust is not the natural function of human being. How can we foster this lusty tendency that it will be  come to the platform of helping us.?Nevertheless all our attempts in serving this lust will be to no avail as by time ,place and circumstances, we seemed to be  chained  by bondage. In order to surpass this lusty tendency ,one  sometimes gives reception to the verse daiva hyesa gunamayi mama maya duratyaya by aiming for liberation which is another contrast of  these lusty inclinations, but one who has ceased striving by oneself then strives to take  shelter of the Supreme Lord in complete surrender .Unfortunately , even in that case some hidden lusty notions are still preserved. In Ayurvedic scripture there is a particular concoction to counteract many types of bodily ailments. but if this dose  is taken in an improper situation or time  then there is no mitigation of the disease in reverse that disease will take a heavy toll on that person even up to deformation of his limbs. In the same way when lust is not offered in the service of Krishna  but as sense enjoyment  then that intensity of selfish purpose will result simply in the creation of false successions  all in the opposition to the instructions of the pure guru, This was how the thirteen false disciplic successions came into being as Aul ,Baul  ,Karta Bhajan ,Gaura Nagari------All these thirteen false groups  which acted in opposition to the Gaudiya Line are identified  individually,  as a deformity of this pure disciplic succession. By closely examining these groups, we can find a similarity in the  lusty sensuality imbedded in the heart of these groups. One  of the latest addition to these groups is the group called Nadiya Nagari. These imposters now claim that they do not need  to search for Krishna any more as they have  already reached the  pinnacle of having  experiencing the quintessence of all love mellows. They are not interested in Krishna ,the master of mellows of Vraja .Being smitten by pangs of materialistic lust ,they opt  now for the same mellows with Guru and Gauranga in Nawadwipa. How disgusting ! these people are so lusty that they have sunk to this low level whereby the society will  definitely despise their actions. To act blatantly in a deviant fashion to guru with not accepting that the same Krishna appeared as Gauranga to exhibit this love mellows  is a sign of one's blindness, due to profound lusty disposition. In the ordinary world ,there is evidence where can be understood somewhat by the nature of thar locality. Just as although a woman understand a person is her husband still to act out what is happening in her bedroom without discretion externally in front of others will simply cause people to laugh and expose her deviant mentality .Simply by time and place sequence a thing is not properly identified. But in the proper context and situation then with the added  proper time and place it is easily discerned. By not understanding this fact  can lead to our destruction. To attempt to obtain nectarine mellows of devotion compared to inner  chamber of the house with equating the magnanimous pastimes of Gauranga compared to the outside ,Don't these Nagaris ever think what they are doing? Even though one can describe Gaura Sundar as our most dear still but acting against Gauranga would end up in one  forgetting Gauranga altogether. There is difference in the perfected stage and the stage of cultivation of devotional practices. In the stage of devotional practice, the form of Guru and Gauranga serves to guide and help us in our practices but on reaching the perfected stage, one can cross over the form of Gauranga taking the mood and complexion of Srimati in devotion to  come to realize the form of SruKrishna. The close relation(companionship) of both these pastimes have to be understood otherwise in replacing Krishna with Gaura and visa -versa will mean that one will not be able to realize these nectarine love mellows at all.  This is mentioned by Krishna Das Kaviraj in the twenty fifth chapter of the Chaitanya Charitramrta which mentions the excellence of these nectarine pastimes in sweetness and depth but only realized by the mercy of Sri Guru and the Vaishanvas. It is unfortunate that because these pastimes were not understood in the proper context and such ignorance was  the cause of the creation of  a Queen of Nadia. At this juncture we must understand that devotional mellows are restricted with certain rules and being ignorant of such will instead land us in the realm of overlapping mellows(rasabhasa)Many a time because of distorted spiritual conclusions, we concoct some imaginary worship accordingly. Sri Svarupa Goswami ,the connoisseur of all such divine mellows would never allow any one  who were implicated with  these  above two faults to come close to Sriman Mahaprabhu. Generally ,the living entity even after great endeavor is not able to conquer the lusty inclinations. The illusory energy is able to thwart the living entity again and again because of his inherent cheating tendency. Until and unless one surrenders to the spiritual master and the Supreme Lord, there can be no way one can escape the clutches of  lust. Even though many come to take shelter of the spiritual master  with many lusty intentions but in result ,as one tries to  cunningly hide a flower exposed in severe drought  hence with the consequence of having to transmigrate to lower births. There are also many others  who act in defiance to the instructions of SriGuru and His pure actions. In this way their offence thinking demeans the absolute position of guru. These ignorant people do  not understand that guru can understand their inner deviant mentality. He is not a conditioned soul bond by the chains of time ,place and circumstances. What ruse don't we know to be expertly able to fool others in relation to ourselves?. In cheating others, we ourselves become implicated in being cheated. If we are really faithful then we should allow Lord Gopal to be the witness of our actions in mitigating our problems and doubts as He is the omniscient seer of all our actions.. The guru is one who cuts through the maze of opposing spiritual conclusions and enlighten us on the joy of proper knowledge. The guru is he who by his sharp logic cuts away our  illusion stemming from  ignorance  and again revives the pure devotional conclusions in  the sincere  disciple. Therefore  ,it is for this reason that  Gaudiya preceptor initiates the disciples so that  the resultant lust in the heart of the disciple can be transformed to unalloyed service to the Supreme Lord Krishna
